Today we chat to Ata, owner of Alacati Grill.
What was your background before opening Alacati Grill?
“I studied carpentry in Turkiye and qualified as a carpenter. After that I fitted kitchens in Istanbul. However, I know I wanted to travel the world (without joining the navy!) Therefore I found a job on a cargo ship as the ship captain’s cook. I travelled all over the world, and visited roughly 69 countries! After this whirlwind tour, I then went to France and baked bread. This eventually lead me here to the UK where I worked at various food cafes. I then went into the building trade. I was a mean stripper (stripping walls) and plasterer! As I could also do tiling I had my own business doing wet rooms and bathroom renovations. I also qualified as a plumber!”
What inspired you to open Alacati Grill?
“My love for cooking and it has been my dream to open a Turkish restaurant and to bring the authentic taste of Turkiye to the UK.”
What are business plans for the future?
“My plan is to continue serving the best Turkish food in Daventry and surrounding areas.”
What do you do in your spare time?
“I work long hours so when I do have spare time I love to spend it with wife, Pammy and my dog, Pasha.”
Tell us one thing people might not know about you
“I am a trained and qualified Personal Protection Officer, layman’s term “Bodyguard” So when you come to my restaurant you are served and protected!”
